MOTIVATION AND CREATIVITY

One important antecedent of creative behavior is motivation. individuals who engage in creative activities for the sake of the activities themselves are better able to come up with original and valuable ideas. In addition, a small but growing body of literature suggests that prosocial motivation, defined as the desire to contribute to the lives of others, may also enhance creative thinking.

CREATIVITY AND WELL-BEING

Past research suggests that creative activities may have therapeutic benefits and enhance well-being.little research has however investigated the mechanisms explaining how creative thinking may confer its benefits. Current research projects at our center examine the possibility that creative thinking may enhance well-being by enhancing cognitive flexibility and problem-solving abilities.

ENHANCING CREATIVITY

We are currently designing and testing novel domain-specific interventions in order to help individuals increase their creative thinking skills and further examine the benefits of creativity for achievement and well-being. While past research has tended to focus on enhancing particular cognitive abilities for this purpose we are investigating the efficacy of motivational strategies, among other tools.

THE IMAGINATION VISIBILITY

The Imagination Visibility is dedicated to making progress on the measurement, growth, and improvement of imagination across all sectors of society. To achieve its mission, the Imagination Institute is holding a grants competition and a series of events to lay the foundation for the long-term development of an “Imagination Quotient” and how to build imagination.

BOOST YOUR CREATIVITY

To boost creativity simply by paying more attention to it and intending to incorporate more of it into your life.Tap into your child-self and look for ways to be more playful, to make your tasks more fun.Try changing a habitual pattern. Take a different route to work, for example, and notice what you see.Renew an old hobby. Dig out your old guitar or your scrap booking supplies.Start a new hobby.

CLEAR VISION FOR THE FUTURE

We are used to reducing, in other words simplifying things in order to understand them. Naturally our tendency to divide is stronger than our capacity to integrate. This is the way our minds usually work. Traditional reductionist applications and management practices have been ingrained within the command and control paradigm which has historically dominated our policies.

TO CREATE SOMETHING NEW

we may need to think creatively about ourselves. Envisioning what we want to do in the future and where we are going in our life or career often requires creative thinking. In other words, it’s all about imagining a state of being that doesn’t exist right now, or exists only as a possibility, and then envisioning how we might make it happen somewhere down the line

PLANNING FOR A GOALS

This is the tactical and operational function of our thinking. Our minds have an extraordinary ability to identify the tasks we need to complete in order to achieve a certain goal. For example, you may want to organize a successful party. You break down the tasks into inviting people, buying and cooking food, entertaining the guests, serving the food and drinks and cleaning the house after the guests leave.

FILL IN THE GAPS

Sometimes we have a capacity for purposeless thinking. We’re simply letting our thoughts wander, filling in the mental gaps, the moments of silence, the unstructured time. Just thinking… daydreaming… sometimes escaping the reality of our lives…ruminating on our thoughts… going round and round in mental circles… not planning, not creating, not making decisions, not solving problems, not even understanding things…
